My Students

Approximately 60 percent of the students at our urban Los Angeles school are African-American, about 30 percent are Latino, and the remaining 10 percent are a combination of Pakistani, Ethiopian, Anglo-American, and others. Many students come from a multicultural heritage.

If we give children challenging things to do, learning comes naturally.

The kids are desperate to explore. They are interested in anything and everything and should have access to excellent learning materials. It is their human right. We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided enough quality resources to shine; this project will help make the dream of a bright future come true.

The vast majority of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

My Project

Blocks form an important part of elementary curriculum. The materials requested here will be used teach my pre-k and kindergarten students to think critically and make informed choices. Many skills in science, math, and engineering are learned through building with blocks - students learn about stability, weight, balance, and gravity; they learn to think creatively about design and think about why some structures stand strong and why others collapse.

The Magformers and Marble Run kit will be used to develop problem solving abilities, concepts of balance and scale, pattern recognition, fine motor skills, and to inspire students to engage in imaginative play and story-telling.

It is my goal to develop problem-solving strategies in the minds of my students so that they will be able to attack math without fear, but with relish, a mental condition that is obviously beneficial in areas of life outside of mathematics. These materials will form an important part of the meaningful math, science and character curriculum that I strive to deliver. Your donation will make a real difference.
