I'm a STEAM teacher in New York servicing all of the Pre-K through fifth graders at my school. We are a Title I school, and approximately 94% of our students receive free lunch. In addition to being a classroom teacher, I also work with students in a Lego Robotics Enrichment Club.
The neighborhood my school is located in contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.
Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of New York City.
My Project
This year I teach a STEM elective class that reaches all of our kindergarten through fifth graders! While we have some of the basic Lego and building supplies for my upper elementary students that were donated to our school previously by DonorsChoose.org, we need a few extra building supplies for our littlest learners! Here's where you come in!
I am requesting sets of colorful wooden building blocks and storage containers to house them in.
These blocks will be used primarily by the kindergarteners to bring their STEM creations to life. They will be tasked with finding solutions to various real-world challenges that are usually presented to them in a read-aloud book. These blocks will be used to build their solutions!
Please help my students build our STEM elective class, one block at a time! These blocks and bins will be used to take our STEM learning to the next level--and the benefits to our students will last a lifetime!
