Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a world without art. Imagine a child without the ability to perceive beauty. The academic instruction of Art provides students with the knowledge to appreciate beauty from around the world, from previous generations, and from within themselves. Art creates the beauty in our world.

Many of my predominantly Latino students come from single income households and struggle to purchase basic school supplies.

They enter my Art class eager to learn various ways to demonstrate their creativity, their understanding of beauty, or to explore with new materials. Unfortunately, the Art elective class is often lacking in resources and classes are limited in their learning because they are unable to practice and apply what they learn.

As we explore the world of value, please help my students not only to learn about various techniques and tools, but enable them to practice and apply that learning by creating their own unique value studies and parts of an illuminated sphere.

My Project

There is an artist in each of my students, young and eager to learn the wonders of the Visual Arts. I constantly strive to teach them the techniques and tools that will enable them to better express themselves artistically. The effective use of color is one of the most important skills to learn. As we approach the unit of color we will be learning about each characteristic of color and to do so we need a variety of blending tools. Our very limited supply of chamois and tortillions has force my students to share the worn out supplies that we do have. I don’t want to limit their learning due to a lack of essential tools. Their passion is so great that we have become very resourceful in making our own tortillions and we use tissue paper to blend.

By donating to our project, you will give each student the ability to work independently instead of waiting for the necessary materials.

The pencils and blending tools will be used create a 10 point value scale. My students are always surprised to learn that they can create a variety of values by just changing the pressure they put on the pencil and using their hand made blending tools.

With your help students will see themselves as true artists when they finally apply what they have learned when creating their own sphere and value portrait.
