This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach 1st grade in a low income district in New York City. My students need materials and storage to be successful and organized.

Students in 1st grade come to school energetic and ready to learn!

They are eager to discover new things and try them out for themselves. By creating a welcoming environment, I can make sure that my students are set up for the best year possible from the very beginning. These students truly deserve all that they need to be successful.

My Project

The new school year is bringing a lot of questions. How can I best care for and teach my students when I only see them a couple of days a week, or only through a computer screen? I plan to use the materials requested to make my students each their own binder with supplies and resources they can take to and from school. These materials will help my students both in school and at home because they will be able to access it at all times. They will have reading, writing, and math materials available to them for help. These binders will allow them to store personal materials such as pencils, erasers, scissors, and a dry-erase marker so they can complete in class and at home assignments.

This binder will be super helpful if we, unfortunately, go back to 100% remote learning.

When school buildings closed in March we had only hours to gather up materials to go home with students. Unsure of what they needed, it was very hard. By preparing these binders, whether in school or at home, these materials will help my students so much!
