This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hungry for knowledge and work very hard. They really show our character trait of grit and curiosity every day in the classroom. My students are mostly English learners so sometimes they are a bit more challenged then what is typical. To help level the playing field and to make things more equitable, I want to give them as much power over their own learning as possible.

I want to be able to meet them, in multiple ways, where they are; and I think technology will be one of the best avenues to use.

We live in a world where knowledge is literally at your fingertips (or in your pocket!). Our students can't even remember a time when there wasn't a hotspot, free wifi, or high speed internet. If knowledge truly is power, we have to be able to teach our students to harness it.

My Project

So I started to use blended learning in my classroom to help students take control of their learning, change the teaching ratio to 1:1, and to help support students who really need it. In order to make it super effective, the smallest of resources is needed. We would really appreciate a class set of headphones. It seems mundane honestly, but sometimes the smallest things are the most important.

I have seen the impact in my classroom from blended learning, especially when students are capable of being fully present with the video and audio.

Its amazing how just that one change can propel student comprehension of a lesson and limit distractions.
