My Students

It's exciting to teach kids what goes into creating a film or performance. Each class and exercise changes how they see media and theater, but to really understand what these creative disciplines are about, students need to create their own work and perform!

Our school follows an arts infusion model, so kids are used to doing art projects in their regular classes.

However, most of my students have never given much thought to how the things the see in the movie theater or on TV are created. Our school for the first time this year has a film class and a theater class. Students are getting exposed to art they would not otherwise see and learning a lot about the type of collaboration needed for staging productions.

My Project

With the materials requested in this project students will have the resources that they need to complete their video and theater projects. The stands and light will help students make movies and aid in the production of our school's first musical this spring. Additionally the headphones will allow students to work in teams to edit their videos during class while other groups complete different aspects of the project. This will allow us to make better use of our limited computer resources.

Creating media and performance is an essential component to understanding the media and performance that you see.

By funding this project you will help my students learn how to interpret what they see. It will also give them a better opportunity to use technology to express themselves and develop their own ideas. Through these tools I will be able to dramatically increase the hands-on time students get at school.
