This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The specific items I'm requesting, such as the metal water rocket launcher with a 125 PSI safety valve, are essential for providing my 8th-grade ELL students with a hands-on, experiential learning opportunity.

My 8th-grade ELL students are incredibly resilient and eager to learn, often overcoming language barriers and other challenges to engage with complex scientific concepts.

This project will provide them with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving skills, giving them the confidence to excel in STEM. It’s more than just a fun activity; it’s a chance for them to prove that they can tackle challenging tasks, think critically, and succeed in a collaborative environment.

This powerful launcher, capable of sending bottle rockets soaring up to 350 feet, will allow them to test the effectiveness of their designs in a real-world context. By engaging in this project, students will not only see the immediate results of their work but also gain a deeper understanding of the principles of physics, aerodynamics, and engineering.

The primary goal is to foster design inquiry thinking and enhance STEM learning. Through designing, building, and testing their bottle rockets, students will engage in critical problem-solving, develop an understanding of iterative design processes, and apply scientific concepts in a practical and exciting way. This project will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, making STEM subjects more tangible and accessible.
