My Students

My school services students from kindergarten through 5th grade. These students may be from the tiny borough of Bath in Pennsylvania, but they are BIG readers! We use a reading and writing program that revolves around novels to create great readers and writers.

Reading interests can vary, but they all have something in common- a mutual love for reading!

It's not uncommon to hear conversations comparing the writings of Kate DiCamillo to Katherine Applegate or other accomplished authors. When given the opportunity, children can develop a love for and connection with great literature.

My favorite thing about the students of my school is their genuine interest in reading. Through all of our reading endeavors, they constantly add new authors and genres to their "have read" pile of books.

My Project

Have you ever finished a book and wondered what to read next? Series books are a fantastic way to alleviate the downtime between books. My students feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment when they finish an entire series.

These books will help grab the students' attention and keep the momentum of reading going!

Each of these series was chosen with the intent to gear toward differing interests in their book choice--a bit of fantasy, some mystery and intrigue, sports, and comedy.

In addition, the LCD writing tablets will help us to engage with reading and phonics. They can be used to write powerful word patterns they notice in the books and connect with comprehension opportunities in a way that is eco-friendly (no consumables like paper or markers) and time (since there's no need for separate writing instruments or erasers). The quick erase button will also speed up the process of the lesson with no downtime for erasing.
