Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year 8 students from BSSJ have created a wellness room to support their peers. THey have been trained in youth counseling and have already begun opening the space to support students with depression, anxiety and social supports. Despite the universal importance of mental health, many cultures lack open conversations on the topic, and stigma often hinders discussions. Students have overwhelming claimed that individuals often struggle silently, unable to access resources or support due to societal constraints. Additionally, the impact of one's mental health on others and the community as a whole is profound, yet frequently overlooked.

We are seeking funding to establish the Blankspace Health Wellness Center within our school to provide accessible resources for peer to peer counseling and support.

This center will serve as a safe space for students to engage in open dialogue, access educational materials, and seek guidance when needed. With your generous donation, we aim to furnish this center with comfortable amenities such as bean bag chairs, rugs, and inspirational posters to create a welcoming environment conducive to healing and growth. Furthermore, the center will serve as a hub for resources, benefiting not only our current students but also incoming families who may lack access to such support networks. Together, we can foster a community where mental health is prioritized and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
