My Project

We have 135 African American students in the Black Student Achievement Program at our school. Our students are enthusiastic about school and are learning to self-regulate their emotions through socio-emotional wellness exercises.

What is missing is a physical place in my room specifically designated to allow students to choose a method by which he/she uses to sit, to contemplate and reflect on the situation, and to calm themselves in order to return to the classroom emotionally intact and willing and able to learn.

A space with a calming water feature, videos of nature, and calming sounds of dolphins, whales and/or instrumental music will help to soothe, calm, and de-escalate uncomfortable feelings.
