Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are brilliant inquirers and learners of literacy. As incoming 9th graders, and existing 10th, 11th, and 12th graders my students are truly taking their first steps into the world of discourse and wider critical conversations.
Multitudes of my students come from complex literacy backgrounds and in exploring their own identities in these formative years are also establishing their literary identity.
My Project
The educators at our school have endeavored to give our students something often overlooked, a mirror. Windows and mirrors are one of the core tenants of culturally responsive teaching.
In preparation for Black History Month, we want to give each of our students a mirror in which they can see themselves and their beautiful Black identities.
Each of the books on our list represents a unique crevice of the Black experience. We hope that through these books students can start conversations about their identities that go well beyond the month.
