Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This school year, I will have 25 first graders that I am sure are ready to experience a full day of making friends and learning. These students have not been to school in over a year. I want to make it a fun and seamless year. Our school is a Title I school in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood in Chicago. My students are bilingual learners and are excited to know how to speak and read in two languages.

We have a great school community, supportive admin, and wonderful families.

My Project

Our classroom is in need of more African American biographies and read alouds. We want to learn everything we need to learn about Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Dr. King Jr. Black history month gives us a chance to explore the lives of important people that changed our history.

We have a small selection of old and beaten books and it's time to update this collection.

I get so excited when I talk to the students about the Underground Railroad and how brave Harriet Tubman was. Such a visionary!
