My Project

The equipment we’re requesting, a Insta360 gimbal, wireless lavalier microphones, a 10-inch speaker, and a tripod, will significantly enhance my students' ability to produce high-quality documentary content. The gimbal will teach them how to capture smooth, professional-looking footage, introducing them to stabilization techniques used in filmmaking. The wireless lavalier microphones will improve audio clarity, emphasizing the importance of sound in storytelling. The tripod will help them understand framing and composition, ensuring their shots are steady. Finally, the 10-inch speaker will allow them to evaluate their work in real-time, teaching them to fine-tune sound design and presentation. Together, this equipment will transform their learning experience, equipping them with technical skills and building their confidence as young filmmakers.

The goal of this project is to educate students on professional filmmaking while inspiring them to tell powerful stories about African American historical figures.

This project will develop their technical skills in camera operation, audio recording, and editing while fostering their creativity and teamwork. Beyond filmmaking, we aim to build their confidence, broaden their horizons, and provide a platform for them to celebrate their heritage. We want these students to realize their potential and discover new passions that could lead to future educational and career opportunities.

My students are full of untapped creativity. They attend a behavioral and mental health school, and face daily challenges that many their age might not endure. Despite obstacles, they are curious, eager, and excited about learning new skills. Most of them have never worked with professional-grade equipment before, but they are ready to embrace the challenge. Their willingness to take on this project reflects their determination to grow and create something meaningful.
