My Project

As we approach another Black History month my 5th graders are excited to embark on another research project.

This year the students will use a plastic water bottle to create a Black History doll.

Each doll will represent the person they have chosen from the past and present. Some of the trailblazers are Wilma Rudolph, Charles Ellington, Dr. Mae Jemison, and Tyler Perry. Students will be charged to research their assigned/chosen figure and create a doll using various art supplies. They will also dress up as their figure and present to their parents and peers at the Black History Museum the last week in February.

The books we are asking for will be a keepsake for each child. They will take the books home and the book will represent their 5th grade Black History project. I teach my students that we are all lifelong learners. Hopefully they will pass the books down to their own children while always remembering what they learned in their 5th grade classroom.
