My Project

For many of my students, food insecurity is a daily reality. Coming to school hungry or without access to snacks can make it incredibly difficult for them to focus, engage, and thrive in the classroom. The sound of a rumbling stomach or the distraction of hunger takes their minds away from learning and into survival mode.

While school meal programs help, there are gaps—whether it's a missed breakfast or a need for a boost during long hours of concentration.

Snacks and small treats in the classroom aren’t just about satisfying hunger; they’re about giving students the energy and focus they need to participate, learn, and succeed. These snacks create a classroom where students feel welcomed, cared for, and supported.

In addition, snacks and candy become small incentives that carry a big weight. Encouraging students to attend class regularly, participate, and push through challenging days becomes easier when the classroom is a place they want to be. These items make the environment more inviting and provide a sense of security and normalcy for students who have much less than many others do.

These simple snacks—though not highly nutritious—are ones my students will eat, and that’s what matters most. They bridge the gap between hunger and learning, creating an environment where students can feel valued and seen. With your support, I hope to sustain my classroom through the rest of the school year, ensuring no student has to choose between hunger and education.

Thank you for helping me give my students the fuel they need to focus, learn, and grow. Your generosity goes far beyond snacks—it helps build a community of care and opportunity.
