This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Imagine It's your birthday and your family and friends don't have the resources to celebrate you. You go to school and don't feel seen. You miss the old days when you knew you could count on your teachers to remember you even if you didn't do anything at home. The magic is gone, and you treat it like any other day. Instead of feeling excited you can't wait for the day to end. These are the emotions many of our teenage students face at our schools. We want to change this one birthday at a time by acknowledging them on their special day and making sure they feel cared for and seen.

Students in ACCESS face many barriers and challenges that they have to overcome on the daily basis.

By providing them with birthday kits we will reassure them that we care for them and want to be part of their special moments. We plan to utilize the materials by putting a birthday kit together for students to receive on their birthdays. The kit will include items that teenagers would appreciate such as stress balls, chips, inspirational journals, pens, slime and candy. This will create positive rapport and increase their self-esteem. The items will make a difference in their learning by easing their mental health. The goals for this project are to make a positive impact.

Our students are special and we want them to know that. We want them to smile and have a positive school experience. The memories they build in our program will surpass school buildings and live in their hearts forever. Our hope is that by providing them with new core memories they will be open to sharing, learning and engaging in school activities that will benefit them.
