Help me give my students binoculars for our bird study as we are becoming ornithologists this spring, researching birds and will go birding in Central Park!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Grace's classroom raised $996

My Students
My students and their families have sought out and selected our school to provide an enriching educational environment for their children. Our integrated units of study provide multiple entry points for learning to meet the varied learning needs of all students. Through these studies, students learn how to learn.
They truly take on the roles of researchers, engineers, scientists, nutritionists, and mathematicians.
Almost all of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students understand that they have a place in the world and are capable of making important contributions. They learn to become flexible, resilient, and creative thinkers who work collaboratively and solve problems.
My Project
Second graders are becoming ornithologists (bird scientists) this spring! We will read about birds, study them, and of course, go birding. Birders have a few important tools they use, including binoculars. Imagine there is a red-tailed hawk circling above us in Central Park... wouldn't it be neat for every child to put up their binoculars to get a closer look!? Or maybe, there is a nearby black-capped chickadee and we really want to check out the "black cap" on its head. It would be great if every child could just put up their binoculars. I included enough binoculars in this project to account for students learning in-person as well as students learning remotely who may be able to join us on our birding field trips.
Studying birds this spring will provide many opportunities for students to research, observe, ask questions, make predictions, and collect data about our local NYC environment.
It will give children a chance to get outside (the safest place to be with COVID!) and explore. I have also included books that will support our field research as well as owl pellets to dissect so we can learn more about bird diets.
I hope you will consider enriching our bird study with these materials and making our ornithology dreams come true.
