This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As science continues to evolve, so should STEM education. My students are in a living environment class taking the regents in June. A major topic on the regents is genetics and biotechnology, including understanding how gel electrophoresis works. I always strive to make my lessons exciting and hands on for all the different learners. Because funding is limited in our school, have missing, faulty, or outdated equipment, Im not able to give them a real applicable science education. It is time to bring them up into the 21st century. Please help students with advance equipment, which not only prepares them for the regents, but also give them a more authentic science experience.

In our living environment class, students are to also take laboratory classes in order to qualify for the regents.

Using the gel electrophoresis I am able to perform such labs, which is tied to the NY Scope and Sequence standards and unit of genetics and evolution. The best way for students to understand the concept of genetics, I would like them to get first hand experiences in gel electrophoresis.
