My Project

The final unit in dual credit biology is genetic engineering. This comes right after doing genetics and DNA. Students are learning about the novel methods and techniques found in nature and used in the lab for editing genetic information. The most common GMO organisms students recall are GMO glow fish. However, as of 2024, a novel plant GMO has been developed in the form of the firefly petunia.

Help give my students exposure to this novel bioluminescent GMO plant, the firefly petunia.

In conjunction with GMO foods, this firefly plant would be a welcome addition to our classroom and greatly enrich the unit for students to see how food, animals, and plants are all being modified with genetic engineering techniques that they learn in class.
