My Project

My fourth graders are amazing humans! They are intelligent, curious, and eager to learn. I teach in an urban school with students from a wide range of backgrounds, academic strengths, and linguistic abilities, but they have one HUGE thing in common - they LOVE to read!

Biographies provide a window into our past and present, and give us the opportunity to learn how history makers improve our communities and our futures.

This project will provide my fourth grade students with Who Was? books that teach about a wide range of people who have influenced our world. Gandhi's peaceful protest, Anne Frank's courage in the face of genocide, and Mister Roger's message of love and kindness are just a few of the many lessons my young readers will explore. I am requesting two copies of each title, so that my students can read about and discuss these influential figures together.

By reading about these change-makers, my students will not only grow as readers, but also will grow in their capacity to appreciate how individuals can have a profound effect on their world.
