My Students

Bins for Bedlam. My student need bins to organize all of their paperwork. Many young adults find it difficult to be neat and organized. Having their own space in the room also makes them feel very proud and invested in the class/our school.

My students are in a leadership class titled, S.P.I.R.I.T.

They are a very diverse group of students who work together to identify and resolve problems on our campus. Our class includes sophomores to seniors, as well as second semester freshmen. As young leaders they are learning essential life skills which will help prepare them for college and to go onto become community leaders. Each student identifies a problem on our campus and then facilitates a resolution. For example, for Denim Day, a Sexual Assault Awareness Day. For this event, students hosted an all day school-wide assembly with guest speakers, audio/visual equipment, and the Clothesline Project (similar to the AIDS quilt). Another project was to provide Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Training to underclassman. After extensive, intensive training, these leadership students provided peer training. Other projects include hosting a Cultural Food Fair, World AIDS Day, and having an AIDS Walk Team

My Project

The bins will be an invaluable resource. Honestly, I do not feel comfortable sending my students home with the steps they will receive. I can teach them how to remain organized while ensuring the steps are not lost. They also love having their own space in my classroom. This sense of pride encourages them to be positive role models on our campus. We currently only have enough bins for 1/2 of the class to have a bin. This unfair system is frustrating. I would like each student to have their own bin.

These students work very hard to create positive change on our campus.

Please support their efforts! Since we have received Donor's Choose Grants in the past, I know how much outside support means to my kids (students). They will be truly touched and motivated by your generosity.
