Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.

I teach in a Title I school.

My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!

My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic not only were the kids wanting to come back but we missed seeing their smiling faces every day.

My Project

These bins that I am requesting will be used at school. What I have added in my project is storage boxes for my students. I was grateful enough to have cubby storage furniture but don’t have enough storage boxes to put all of my students' materials. These storage boxes will make a difference in their learning because now I will be able to have their learning material out for them to engage and have an organized classroom for them. Especially in 5th grade, we have to be organized. There has to be a certain place for everything and with these storage boxes, I am able to achieve that. With the storage boxes, I am able to place a picture of the manipulatives that are inside the storage box. Therefore, my students will know what goes inside that box and where the storage box belongs for an organized 5th-grade classroom.

Having these storage bins will make a huge difference to help promote a safe, clean environment for my students to learn in.

Currently, my students have to place their bulky binders and water bottles either on the dirty floor or use up precious workspace at their shared table.

During the winter, the floors will be wet and dirtier, thus increasing the need for these bins even more.

I believe having these useful bins, together we will be able to alleviate clutter around students' works tables and promote a healthier, happier classroom.
