Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I would like to add physical binders to our classroom routines for 9th and 10th grade computer science.

By offering students tools like three-ring binders, I can engage their tactile, spatial, and visual learning and processing modalities – which increases opportunities for students to connect with abstract computer science concepts using their senses (instead of just screens).

This increases the accessibility of curriculum/content for all learners, and offers points of connection that may be especially important for neurodivergent learners.

For teenagers (as well as other aged learners), the practice of organizing physical objects (like paper schoolwork) supports both academic success and general cognitive development in areas like executive functioning, memory and recall, attention and focus, learning independence, problem solving, and communication.

When students complete coursework online only, they do not always review their work or reflect on what they have learned, resulting in missed opportunities to reinforce neural pathways related to course content such as abstraction, compression, packets, routing, cybersecurity, personally identifiable information (PII) as well as loops, iteration, variables, and problem decomposition.
