My Project

For the past two years, my Critical Ethnic Studies and Personal Finance students have used binders to organize their assignments and important class materials, including printed readings, the syllabus, and checklists. These binders have become an essential tool for helping students develop organizational and executive functioning skills—empowering them to take ownership of their learning.

My current collection of binders includes fewer than 100— a mix of two-year-old dollar store binders, used ones gathered from around the school, and a few new ones generously donated by family and friends— for my 180 students.

Additionally, after nine semesters of continuous use by hundreds of students, many of these binders are showing significant wear and tear. I would love to provide my students with new binders that they can personalize and truly call their own.

I teach at a Title I school where students often don’t have the means to bring their own supplies. While we ensure access to essentials like pencils, highlighters, and folders, a binder is something special. By the end of the semester, it becomes more than just a tool—it transforms into a portfolio of their hard work, growth, and accomplishments, something they can take pride in.
