This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These bilingual books will continue to enhance the diverse classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy, but it lacks language diversity. With half of my class learning English as a second language, this will help transition them from speaking their native language, Spanish, into being bilingual. I have watched as even my shy English Language Learners shine while sharing the few bilingual books I currently have with their classmates. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunity to read. This will create a whole new section of my reading library where bilingual books can be showcased and make my Spanish speakers feel welcomed into the literacy environment. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them enjoy independent reading time in both English and Spanish.

With these new books, my students will be able to read independently in both their native language and in English.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will not only continue to help my students grow stronger in their reading skills, but also support their English language learning journey. My English Language Learners have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, especially my few bilingual books, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with reading in both their native and new languages.
