Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Spanish dual-language classroom. This means that half of my students come from English speaking families, while the second half of the class comes from Spanish speaking families. In the classroom, we speak both languages. Half of the day is devoted to instruction in English, while the other half is devoted instruction in Spanish.

Not only do Spanish speaking students work in an environment where the home language is maintained, many English students are also given this wonderful opportunity to be immersed in another powerful language.

The school is considered Title I and is found is an relatively low-income neighborhood.

While these statistics are theoretically nice, one thing is for sure, we are bilingual and proud!

My Project

As stated previously, we are a bilingual classroom, speaking in both languages all the time. Students have access to English books and Spanish books, but not necessarily to bilingual books, or their favorite books in both languages.

These books will make a big difference to the students' reading lives by helping them better comprehend the story and advancing their language skills.

My classroom, in particular, has a lot of Spanish language learners and English language learners. Books that are written in both languages, allow the students to compare and contrast words they are familiar with in the context of a story.
