This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our preschool, located on the USA-Mexico border, serves a diverse group of children from low-income families, many of whom speak Spanish as their primary language. While we strive to provide a nurturing learning environment, our current classroom library lacks books that reflect the cultural, linguistic, and emotional experiences of our students.

The majority of our students come from families where education is not always a primary focus, and mental health and emotional well-being are topics that are often not discussed.

This leaves our young learners without the resources they need to develop a strong sense of self, empathy, and emotional intelligence. To address this gap, we are seeking funding to build a classroom library filled with bilingual books that not only reflect their cultural and linguistic backgrounds but also introduce them to new concepts and perspectives that promote emotional growth, mental health awareness, and resilience.

By providing bilingual books that explore themes such as emotional expression, self-awareness, mental health, and diverse experiences, we aim to create a safe and empowering space for our students. These books will support language development, foster cultural pride, and encourage important conversations about big emotions—topics that are often overlooked in their homes and communities.

This project will not only improve the educational experience for our students but also support their emotional and social development, providing them with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of their lives and the world around them. Your support will help us offer a more inclusive, empathetic, and holistic education to children who need it the most.
