Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The English/Spanish dictionaries and picture books will be used daily in my 8th grade English and Reading class.

The goal of my project is to have my ESL and ELD learners in my class have resources they need to complete projects and writings in my classroom.

I currently teach 6 different English and Reading classes with 8th grade students. Of the approximate 180 students I teach daily, 65 are ESL or ELD. I would like to offer these students and all of the students in my classroom dictionaries and bilingual books they can use daily.

I start every school year with an autobiography poem. The students follow a specific pattern and answer 11 questions about themselves. For example, things they enjoy, fear, love, and wonder. Sometimes it is hard for my Spanish speaking students to try to find the English word for what they want to write. These resources will be beneficial for them and give students the confidence to know they can write properly.
