This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Math is where my students can be free to try new things and succeed! Larger whiteboards will give them space to take risks and learn from their mistakes.
My students are hardworking, curious and committed.
They do whatever it takes to solve a problem, no matter the difficulty. They take risks and are not afraid of failure. They use failure to their advantage, and they learn from their mistakes. They aren't statistically expected to be this way. My students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and they face many difficulties in their lives.
My Project
Larger individual whiteboards and markers are necessary for longer problems. Currently, my AP Calculus students use 2 or more small, letter sized whiteboards to solve one problem, or they erase important "scratch work" that they realize they need again at the end of a problem, but they ran out of space. My students will learn that the whole problem solving process is important in arriving at a conclusion, and that no step is worth erasing.
These whiteboards provide a more engaging space than the traditional pencil/paper method of practicing. With whiteboards, students can hold up their board to another student across the room and share their approach, which is the most important step in the problem solving process.
This year's AP Calculus students want to be the first class at our school with at least one student passing the AP exam.
Help add to our motivation by supporting our whiteboard cause! Help make our classroom an even more engaging space that promotes higher level thinking, taking risks, and collaboration! Thank you!
