Welcome to my ESE world, where things are not as easy as we make them look. Documentation is a must when educating an exceptional learner. When you sit down at the big table, you must bring your "A" game. In ESE, that means proof of "accommodations." We desperately need to purchase 8 Brother easy plug document scanners to share with our ESE students.
Our success is your success!
How will my students use and benefit from these scanners? I am glad you asked. We start at the base here at Springwood. Students learning to track their own data at an early age leads to success.
The students will each have a tracking portfolio. Each Florida standard has a progression scale of achievement. Our end goal is identified, and we make a plan to baby step toward success.
At the top of each lesson, we identify what the expected outcome is. At the end of the lesson the students work with a teacher to pull work that they feel shows proof of partial or full mastery and they will use this magical scanner to convert their physical work into a digital portfolio. Then we will close out by looking through the portfolio to identify gains the child made from the beginning to the current state.
We will use this adjust pacing and show student progression.
The kids learn to be accountable and well informed as stakeholders of their education. This is not a magic trick but rather a picture of a sound learning plan. Student participation in lesson planning and data tracking simply leads to success. We want to instill that from the start, and then as they age, it will be as simple as writing their name. You give them responsibility, and they rise to the challenge.
