Big Books for Big Readers!

My students need big books for the classroom! Our reading curriculum includes standard-sized books. Big books would provide more opportunities to study the illustrations and words!

My Students

Our preschool students at LMES are three and four years old. Some of them have developmental delays and autism and some of them are typically developing three and four year olds. They keep us on our toes at all times!

My students LOVE to read and love to learn!

For many of our students, our preschool classroom is the first classroom experience they have had. Not only are they learning academic skills, they are also learning to form social relationships and how to be life-long learners. I love watching them learn and grow so much throughout the school year!

My Project

We use a reading curriculum that allows us to read fun and familiar stories for our students. However, only standard-sized books have been provided. With our classroom set-up, it can be difficult for all of the students to see the book at the same time while I'm reading it from the front. Not only would big books allow students to see the illustrations better, but they are always fun and exciting!

Big books would offer my students the ability to examine the story on a deeper level.

They would be able to study the illustrations, examine the faces of the characters, and notice other details and elements the illustrator includes.

Big books would also allow my students to study the words. While they may not "read" the words, they would be able to study the structure of the words and sentences. Big books would aide in all early reading skills.

These big books would be shared by two preschool classes- both include students with Developmental Delays and Autism. Students without disabilities will also benefit from these big books. My goal in my classroom is to instill in my students a love for reading, and I believe these books would spark an excitement in our students!
