My students live in a rural community of about 2,000 residents. They may not realize it yet, but they are growing and learning in a very supportive and tight knit community that cares about each of them. In my classroom I have 15 kindergarteners of varying social, emotional, and academic needs. They are creative, clever, and spontaneous! They have so much excitement for school and learning; it makes my job so enjoyable! My students are unique individuals with unlimited potential. It is my job to ignite their excitement for learning so they can reach their full potential!
My Project
Big books are an essential learning tool for kindergarten students. Through big books students learn new vocabulary and develop comprehension strategies. A big book display would give our classroom a place to store and display our big books. Students would be able to use the display for interactive activities with the book.
Big books are a fun way to motivate students to read and are an exciting way for them to experience books as they are learning new vocabulary and reading strategies!
My students would use the big book display during whole group instruction where we would learn specific vocabulary related to the big book and develop comprehension skills. Students will also use the display during independent time as they can reread the book and practice retelling it. They will also use the front of the display to build and write words from the story as well as sequence picture cards from the story.
