Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Thank you for taking the time to read about this project! I am hoping to gain support to encourage more imaginative play and engaging activities for my ENL students.

Research shows that incorporating games in academic settings enhances confidence, fosters teamwork, and significantly improves conversational skills.

Because my ENL students have access to these engaging games and activities in their general education classroom, it makes sense to have them in their ENL classroom as well! The conversations and teamwork that I observe with the games we already have is impressive. Students work together to understand the content and practice communication skills with one another. This is a fantastic way to expose students to the differences in academic and social language, as well as reflecting on the appropriate ways to use them.

The Splash Reading and Splash Jr. Reading games are a fun way to practice reading words, depending on what each grade level is learning in phonics, with accuracy and fluency. It holds them accountable to read carefully and encourages their peers to support them when they are unsure about a word.

The dry erase board and paddleboards are perfect for dictation games where students write the sentence or word they hear. They love to check their answer against the teacher's answer, or even to see how close they were!

In our list, you will also find toys that relate to the weather, careers, and animals. I want to encourage imaginative play for my Kindergarten students to understand the content through play and manipulatives.

Lastly, I've included prizes for their birthday bags that will go to all my students, K-5! Having the support to bring a smile to their faces on their birthdays would mean the world.
