Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are moving towards the 21st century but they are doing it in 19th century buildings. Extreme makeover is needed!

My students are awesome middle school children.

They live in an urban area of economic challenges. Their school is a school of the fine arts and is dedicated to developing students into life long learners. They attend a school where 3 out of 5 students have a family member (cousin, uncle, aunt, mom, dad, etc.) that has attended their middle school. Their school is a stepping stone in the community, and because of this, our students see the same hallways and walls from many years passed.

My Project

Creating a nurturing and inviting environment in our school will make a world of difference when learning. Our students can't just destroy their old school and start over, but they can take ownership! Together, my students will create murals and designs in our hallways and along the walls to show pride in being a school dedicated to the fine arts and becoming life long learners. Paint! Such a simple idea.

Our children will gain useful life skills through this art experience.

It will encourage them to get creative and take care of what they have. Most of all, this project will give my students a feeling of self pride, by teaching the old cliche "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!".
