My Students

My students come off the bus each morning filled with the expectation of having a good day. They work hard at their education, pleasing their teacher, and maintaining their anxiety levels throughout the day. I work with autistic support/life skill students at a Title I school in the Philadelphia School District.

Each students strives to become as independent as possible by the time they are eligible for graduation.

They strive to hone the very skills most of us take for granted, such as being able to communicate and advocate for ourselves. In order to be successful they need lots of practice and repetition. They like to learn new things and are very proud of themselves when they have accomplish a new learning objective.

My Project

Our classroom is an autistic support/life skills class, in which students learn both academic content and skills for independence. Most of the students in my class are from low income homes in which they have no access to a computer and or the internet. Our classroom currently has two computers, which is not conducive for a 21st Century education.

A 21st Century education requires access and knowledge of technology, which includes computers, computer programs, accessing the internet, and internet safety.

The Simbans TangoTab 10 Inch Tablet + Keyboard 2-in-1 Laptop will afford my students numerous opportunities to go beyond the classroom to research and learn, such as researching a job/career, filling out a job application, creating a resume, placing an order, connecting with friends, navigating social media, and other various items.

The Simbans TangoTab 10 Inch Tablet + Keyboard 2-in-1 Laptop will not only afford our classroom research options, but opportunities to learn how to type, create, save, and print documents, power points, videos etc. Students will be able to access educational websites in which they will be able to practice and hone their skills in reading, math and science. The internet offers a plethora of information and wealth of opportunities for both students and educators; however, one must have the necessary equipment in order to connect to the internet.
