My Students

Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in our district every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success!

My students are ambitious, curious, and are some of the most insatiable 10 and 11 years old young minds that you will ever meet!

As a fifth grade teacher to 32 Gifted and Talented students, it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly curious and hungry they are for knowledge. They love to be challenged and be given the opportunity to express their ideas through various avenues.

My Project

Our Gifted and Talented classrooms promote project-based learning and technology. With the sole computer we have right now, this task seems impossible. Many times students need to go home or use other outside sources in order to gather information. Yet this isn't what project-based learning is about. It needs to be about researching proper information together. With this iPad and stylus, project-based learning can start to find a home in our classroom and can support students in deepening their content knowledge, providing a meaningful learning experience; one that goes beyond the books they carry. We also foster peer collaboration. Not only do we work in groups, but we also work in partnerships where students work together to properly solve problems. There is nothing better than seeing their faces light up and hearing them say, "Oh, now I get it!". With the use of this technology tool, we can share our learning with the entire class. Students need to see that some problems can be solved using multiple methods. With the assistance of an iPad, we can share all of these methods.

I used to believe that technology is the future.

I no longer believe that. What I do believe is that technology is the NOW! it is everywhere and in everything! Students need to have opportunities to use technology in the classroom that serve as a support system for their learning.

It is important that my students have a classroom environment that enhances their learning experience; technology will do that!. Be part of these students' motivation and help feed their hunger for knowledge. Help us develop a deeper understanding of topics, while we get ready for today and build a bright path for our future!
