Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Library Media Center (LMC) is once again the hub of our elementary school. Classes come daily to check out our improved collection. However, the LMC can enrich not only the reading experience for the students, but also support the classroom teachers with projects that reinforce different facets of the curriculum.

Primary students can begin the writing process by giving their reactions to stories which are then written for them to model on their dry erase boards.

Capitalization, punctuation, and complete thoughts are practiced at every reading so that by the time they are in second or third grade, they know how to write a paragraph that expresses their thoughts or a summary, because this can be used for both fiction and non-fiction titles.

The large magnetic alphabet will give them practice in learning alphabetical order. Additionally, cursive handwriting can be introduced with them practicing on their lined whiteboards.

The crayons, copy paper, games, and Legos are materials for a makerspace area. This encourages the use of the students' problem-solving skills and creativity. The cart is needed to store the materials as our LMC does not have a dedicated area for a makerspace.

The inspirational posters are to encourage the intermediate students, especially the boys, to aspire to excellence and self-confidence in their academic abilities.

Storage of supplies that tend to be used and not returned requires that the LMC has a file cabinet that locks. The need for a pair of scissors is because of this practice. Xacto knife is used in the process of weeding books.

Lastly, there is still a need for the display holders because I wish to promote more of the new books in our collection. It is my desire to have every top shelf showcasing books along with the students' book reviews of them.
