Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Poetry, real-life heroes, the joy of reading, wolves, animal adaptations, and ancient cultures...these are a few of the topics that my students and I will investigate this year. I am excited to guide them through these explorations and participate in their growth as readers, writers, artists, storytellers, and individuals.

Our goal as a bilingual community is to foster our students' development linguistically, academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally.

We want our learning environment to be a supportive, collaborative, and engaging space, where students can develop their individual voices and have the confidence to share their thoughts and ideas. We want to ensure our students have the tools and skills to succeed in our ever-changing world.

As a teacher, I constantly grow and learn with my students, as together we explore new worlds, new skills, and new relationships. This wondrous process can occur anywhere and anytime, but with the necessary supports, it can be more fluid and constant, laying the foundations for lifelong engagement in learning and discovery.

My Project

Our lessons involve shared information, new ideas, and lots of discussion. To center our conversations and learning, we use our projector all day, every day: to display text, new images, and sometimes, directions to enable independent work.

Our projector enables all students to participate in the learning and conversation, while the ink enables us to print necessary texts and for students to share work with peers.

In a dual language classroom, we often create our own resources, and as such have high printing needs. At the same time, our projector bulb is currently dying, and images are getting darker and more difficult to view. This bulb will be our shining champion, enabling better access and visibility. A new bulb will allow students to see images more easily, identify details during our Visual Thinking Strategies Discussions, and read text more easily.
