Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 4th grade in my very own hometown, the Norwood section of the Bronx. My students are motivated, dedicated, funny, and kind. Each of them has something unique to bring to the table. They come from various cultural backgrounds, creating a truly unique and diverse classroom. Many of them lack access to educational resources at home, which motivates me to provide various tools for them even more.

My students are part of a larger school community of approximately 700 students.

We learn together in a K-5 school that does the best it can for our low income population. Our school has a large ELL population and high needs for differentiation and authentic learning experiences. We diligently work together to deliver the best for each and every one of our students.

My Project

Having a class set of dictionaries and thesauruses will encourage my students to become more independent writers. Rather than depending on an adult to spell difficult words for them, they will have access to an abundance of words, definitions, synonyms, and antonyms all in one reference book! Writing can be a struggle for many students, but by having dictionaries and thesauruses available to them, they will be able to hone their spelling, build their vocabulary, and make better word choices in their writing!

In addition, my students will learn how to use such a simple, yet powerful resourceful, something that is often forgotten in today's technology driven world.
