Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher who recently returned to teaching second grade in an urban school.

Despite many challenges, my students come to online school each day eager to learn how to learn and drive their own learning.

My students love school because they experience thrilling and motivating educational experiences that simultaneously improve their math, writing, reading, science, and social studies skills. This often takes monetary funding I am not given by my state or school district, especially in a school year when all of my students are learning from home. Unforgettable learning experiences in second grade help my students retain learning in their long-term memories.

My Project

I teach second graders who are still fine-tuning their fine motor skills. The frustration of trying to move the mouse on a trackpad is more overwhelming than the learning that is supposed to be happening. A wired, USB mouse would eliminate unneeded technology stress.

Wired mice will simplify many parts of online learning for the second-graders and having fully-charged iPads will simplify my ability to oversee the students in Zoom breakout rooms from my (charged) iPads.

I have 4 iPads I log-in to Zoom on, and watch what is happening at all virtual tables. Right now, I only have one functioning charger that frantically gets used to hopefully charge the iPads sufficiently by the next learning day.

The pens and markers will give everyone a necessary hands-on break! Doing art or working on whiteboards makes the students happy, and teaching something that feels so boundless also makes online teaching and learning more bearable.
