This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Inspire young readers one book at a time," is what I like to say. As an educator one of my most difficult jobs is trying to find stories that will grab the attention of my students. So far, this year I have been successful, but I have found that my students are much more engaged when they all have a copy of the book in front of them. Many of my students are low readers, so it makes it that much more important to keep them focused. My school is in an area where many of the children go home and do not receive the support they need to get their work completed.

I have done everything I could possibly do this year to collect multiple copies of books. I have gone to every classroom and checked their libraries and when I still did not have enough copies, I went out and bought what was needed. We were very fortunate that one of the books we read the librarian was able to order for us. However, there are no more funds for books this year and I know my students will love the book Loser. I have read it every year with my class and intend to do it again this year.

Here is where I need your help. I would like to make it possible that every student in my class will be able to read along with me. That's why I'm asking for your donation of 25 copies of the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli. In addition to being able to read along, I would be able to assign projects and homework that will support the reading we do in class. This year I set up a class blog and some of the students have been able to go home or to their library and respond to the books we have read. They have been able to do this because, up until now, I have had copies of each book for each student. I have found that because of each student having their own book, as well as the technology aspect, that more assignments are being completed and the students are much more excited about reading.

Please, help me to keep my class of growing readers strong. Your donation will inspire young readers to keep moving forward. Having their own book in hand helps keep them focused and allows them to connect to the story with ease. This is how we grow young readers, by putting a book in the hand and showing them the way.
