Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the pleasure of having 24 bilingual students in my classroom. Many of them new to the country. All of them are at different stages of language progression, with the bulk of them at the beginning and emerging stages. All of my students read below grade level in both their home and English language. A hundred percent of my students come from low income or no income.

All my students are learning remotely with limited supplies.

Many have few or no books at home. Every single student would benefit from having books read aloud to them. It would be great to have additional books to read to my students. No educator knew COVID-19 would keep us home for months, and so many of us didn't grab enough resources. Thanks for reading!

My Project

Many of my students are beginning to learn English as a Second Language. Even though remote learning is new to them, every morning they start completing their assignments on Google Classroom. They love learning, but sometimes struggle to complete tasks and need extra assistance. They would benefit from having access guidance and support in newly established remote learning platform.

I want to obtain the right technology that would maximize their learning by reaching all different learning styles.

With the AirPods and a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, my students will be able to get clear communication and better visual learning. I have two loud children at home. The AirPods would allow me to block all the noise and hear and communicate better during lessons with my students. These items will facilitate the learning of my students by allowing clear communication between my students and me. The outcome of my students and I communicating clearly would be a successful lesson. I will use the adapter with a MacBook Pro I recently received through DonorsChoose to connect a document camera and share my screen with my students. With these items, my students will watch as I model my lessons. English Language Learners are mostly visual and auditory learners. These would make a huge difference in their learning.
