Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am seeking funding for books that will inspire my students to read and enjoy books outside the classroom. From 2020 to 2024, the Best Spanish Language Picture Book Award has served as a vital celebration of culturally rich and linguistically vibrant literature that reflects the diverse experiences of Spanish-speaking children and families. This award honors outstanding picture books originally written in Spanish or skillfully translated into Spanish, recognizing the power of storytelling to affirm identity, foster empathy, and spark joy in young readers.

With an emphasis on artistic excellence, narrative depth, and authentic representation, the award highlights titles that elevate the voices of Latinx authors and illustrators and promote bilingual literacy in schools and homes.

Books selected during this period have not only demonstrated exceptional literary merit and visual appeal but also addressed themes relevant to Spanish-speaking communities, such as immigration, family traditions, resilience, and belonging. Supporting and recognizing these works through this award ensures that Spanish-speaking children see themselves reflected in the pages of a book an experience essential for fostering self-worth and a lifelong love of reading.
