I teach at a small rural school district that has an interesting mix of cultures as Amish and English students go to school together. About 55% of the 138 Pk- 5th grade students qualify for free/reduced lunch. My students are energetic, intelligent, inquisitive, and fairly tech-savvy as they are each assigned an iPad or Chrome Book. They work hard and each has a class job. Most student’s favorite job is helping take care of our class pet.
My Project
The materials requested for this project will not only help this years fourth grade class, but will help my classes for years to come. Our pet, Zorro, has brought our class together as the students have enjoyed learning more about this docile, inquisitive, and alert reptile.
Our bearded dragon has helped provide a sense of calm and peace during an uncertain time.
Students have learned about responsibility and nurturing as they have cleaned, fed, watered, and socialized with her.
Math, writing, and science lessons have become new and interesting when they have revolved around our class pet.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
