This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public kindergarten through eighth grade public school in a high poverty urban community in New Jersey. They love music class and are great musicians. Even though we don't have a budget for new materials, we find creative ways to make music together.

For years, my kindergarten and first grade students have enjoyed playing handbells but they are tired of playing the same songs and need new chart cards and sheet music to add variety to their repertoire.

My Project

Ever since my DonorsChoose.org project for handbells was funded in 2010, I have utilized bells in my music classroom. I have seen hundreds of students thrive musically while performing on these bells. Children often ask me if I will let them play the bells as soon as they enter the room. However, my students have been playing the same songs for a long time and I feel it is time for some fresh repertoire.

My students would have the opportunity to perform exciting new pieces in the classroom and during school concerts on the handbells if they received new sheet music.

Their competency using the handbells will only increase as they are exposed to new sheet music and chord cards.
