My Students

As a kindergarten teacher of 23 years in the same Title I school, I have seen so much change. This year, many of my students attend before/after school care and so time with family is very limited. I feel it is my job to provide a clean, safe, and secure place for them to learn and succeed during the school day. My students are eager and excited for their first experience in school and I want to create an environment that reflects this and much more.. I want students to learn to engage in cooperative play, to share with each other and to feel free to express themselves about anything and everything.

My Project

This past year I received a box of these magna-tiles as a holiday gift. I could not believe the response I observed from my students. The blocks provide so many benefits including team building, patience, creative play and resiliency. Boys and girls shared, expressed ideas and showed excitement over their finished products. I can only imagine if I had more sets to expand the exploration of these blocks and all the benefits they have to offer. It is rare to see boys and girls building and sharing ideas as they go along but this was one of the biggest benefits I observed during tub time.
