Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our children are dreamers. They are eager and motivated to learn. They come from families who are hard-working, and they are teaching their children that same motivation for learning. Many of our families fall below the national poverty levels; some experiencing the situation of being homeless or are home insecure. In addition, English is a second language for the majority of our families or they are bilingual households.

Every child deserves a great start.

Our children deserve no less than great. Our children are getting ready for kindergarten, and it is our job to prepare them! Having the right materials and devices is a large part of preparing students for school success!

My Project

Many of my students start the year without a backpack for school. Having a backpack is important for students. It gives them their own space to store things, bringing artwork from school to home, a place to store clothing in case of spills or accidents, it's a way for parents and teachers to send communication in absence of face to face interactions. In addition, I would like my students to have their own journal and writing utensils to use during rest periods. Funds for our program are limited and our program cannot seek donations from our families. I like to provide each student with everything they need for success in preschool. I also create a portfolio of each child's work to show growth to families at conferences and it creates a lasting scrapbook of all that we have accomplished.

Being prepared for school is cool because it give students a sense of self confidence.

I am also seeking lacing beads for each students which I will present to them at their home visit before school starts. I will leave a list of ideas for how families can use them to work on skills at home. In addition to the items I am seeking in this project I will create a home visit package containing a book, scissors, Playdough and other ideas and items families can use to learn at home. Help my students be prepared for preschool so that they will be ready to learn this school year!
