Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The sun is high in the sky, students are counting down the days, and you can smell it in the air: summer is coming! However, these last months can be torture. Being crammed into a small classroom without air-conditioning and 30 other kids can make it difficult to concentrate. We need relief!

I teach 6th grade science in a low income, high needs neighborhood.

For my students, many of whom are English Language Learners and/or have learning disabilities, learning even in the most comfortable environment is a challenge. Being miserably overheated is just another obstacle that can defeat their enthusiasm for school. I am hoping that creating a cooler and more comfortable climate will improve their spirits and help keep them focused on their studies.

My Project

Our school is housed a beautiful, 100-year-old building. Unfortunately, this means that much of the electrical wiring is out-of-date, and therefore cannot support air-conditioning units in the classrooms. Some fans placed around the classroom will cool the kids off and keep them alert and comfortable so that they can do their best.

The end of the year is a stressful time for both students and teachers.

A barrage of high-stakes standardized state tests and final exams necessitates a calm and collected classroom. Your donations of some fans to our school will improve the learning environment and help my students continue to stay focused on their success.
