Behind the Curtain: Creating a Functional Backstage for Student Success

My Project

I’m here on behalf of an incredible group of students who pour their hearts into the theater—both onstage and off. While audiences see the magic of the performance under the lights, there’s a side of theater that’s just as vital, yet often overlooked: the backstage environment. Our theater students are passionate, hardworking, and creative. They dedicate countless hours to rehearsals, costume fittings, set construction, and tech run-throughs. Backstage becomes their second home during productions, but right now, that home lacks some of the basics needed to support them.

Our backstage area is in desperate need of updated furniture.

Students don’t only need comfortable seating and functional tables for props and costumes, but they also need a safe place to secure their clothing and belongings. Such essentials are critical for their well-being and the efficiency of our productions.

By improving our backstage space, we’re creating an environment that values the hard work of our students. It sends a message that their dedication to storytelling, teamwork, and creativity is worth investing in. It’s about giving them the tools to do their best work while feeling supported and appreciated.

I’m asking for your help to make this a reality. Your support will go directly toward purchasing shelving units and thereby creating a functional, welcoming backstage area where our students can thrive. Every piece of furniture we’re able to replace or upgrade will enhance not just the productions, but the overall experience for these young artists.

Together, we can ensure that our theater students not only shine onstage but feel valued behind the scenes, where so much of the magic truly happens. Thank you for considering this important investment in our theater program and in the futures of these talented, driven individuals.
