My students are students at a highly diverse school. We have a high population of both exceptional education students and students in the International Baccalaureate program. We have a large portion of our population receiving free or reduced price lunch.
Our students are service minded, inquisitive learners who work hard and are interested in learning.
My students have put in effort to do well in school, learn more about the world around them and participate in events like the National History Bee and community service projects.
Studies have shown that incorporating movement and excercise during the school day can help make students less fidgety and more focused on learning. It can also help to improve on task behavior and may also help improve memory and concentration.
I am very excited to bring more kinesthetic activity into our classroom.
I work to incorporate subject appropriate kinesthetic activities already like simulation activities and assignments in our school garden, but it would be terrific to provide the opportunity for movement even with other types of classroom work.
We need portable standing desks, pedal exercisers and steppers. Giving students the option to work at standing desks and to be active while seated with pedal exercisers and steppers will benefit students in our classroom. This project will be the beginning of providing a variety of movement opportunities to students.
